They affect the myelin (the sheath around the nerves) of the brain and spinal cord, which can lead to the loss of all vital functions: vision, locomotion, hearing, speech, memory\u2026 and very often lead to the death of the patient. Leukodystrophies can appear at any age, from birth to adulthood.
